The Burton area including the village of Moira had light industry. Moira had a furnace to make pig iron in the mid 1800s. There explains the canal which brought raw materials to the industries inexpensively. This canal goes to Ashby and it has locks, small boats and paths either side for bicyclists or joggers plus lots of mother ducks and ducklings. I sat and ate my picnic lunch on a park bench behind the furnace.
