Wilmcote - This is the childhood farm of Mary Arden who was Shakespeare's mother. They have all kinds of wonderful animals and birds. I saw my first Tamworth pig there. I learned that 'chairman of the bord', 'upper crust' and 'potluck' all originated in the late 1400s. Rats falling into the beer brewing or the stock pot were thought to improve the flavour. One of the kings at this time only ever had one bath in his life. The floors in the buildings were slanted but its no wonder when you see the cutaway construction techniques which were twigs intertwined and stuck together with a mixture of manures.
