Rodmell, Sussex - Monk's Cottage was Virigina Woolf's country getaway. It became more than that during the heavy bombing of London. The woman taking tickets at the cottage entrancewas a little girl when Virigina Woolf gave fancy dinner parties and would peak out her window and look at the famous people in Virginia Woolf's garden. I saw an autographed photo of Albert Einstein in a niche beside the fireplace. This was a bohmenian place. She loved all colours as long as they were a granny smith green. The easy chairs were well broken into and slipcovered as if she had just dashed out for a moment and would be back. As she earned money from her writing rooms were added but they were eccentric as in not being connected to the rest of the house and accessible only by going completely outside. And once done adding a new room she might take a dislike to it and never use it again! To compensate she would then add something else like the little writer's studio above right. The villagers knew the difference between her talking to herself to work out dialogue and talking to herself when she wasn't well. I found the eccentricites endearing.
